Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP)

Van Meter Community School

Comprehensive School Improvement Plan

A Comprehensive School Improvement Plan (CSIP) is created as a part of ongoing improvement in its educational system.  The plan is specific to Van Meter Community School District.  It's design is centered around increasing learning, achievement, and performance of all of our students.

The CSIP serves the district as a guide for keeping the focus of student learning as the "main thing." Long range and annual goals are at the forefront of school improvement efforts.  From the goals, action steps are created in order to help teachers and administrators monitor changes in achievement growth .  Each year the plan or portions of the plan are reviewed by the district leadership team, composed of teachers and administrators (SIT-School Improvement Team) and the Community Advisory Team, composed of teachers, students, parents and community members (SIAC - School Improvement Advisory Team) and revised as needed.  Every five years a new plan is created following a state site visit. [Van Meter has a Comprehensive Site Visit from the state scheduled for February of 2008.]

Essential Student Learning Goals

Based upon recommendations of the District School Improvement Team (SIT) and the School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC), the school board has adopted district goals aligned with student needs. (LC5) These goals were reviewed and revised into a simple acronym - RESPECT  plus a list of detailed descriptions to define the goals. Van Meter’s essential student learning goals are the general expectations for all its graduates.

CSIP Program Evaluations

Van Meter will use a combination of formative and summative evaluation processes within the program evaluation process. (TQ12) The district will also determine the frequency of the formative and summative evaluation processes for each of the programs/services by two factors: 1) legal mandates and 2) local data.  At a minimum, an in-depth formal summative evaluation for all of the programs that Van Meter incorporates into its CSIP will occur within a five-year rotation.   Note:  Van Meter will submit, as required, any annual evaluation/reporting data for state and federal programs.

The District Leadership Team recommended the following program rotation and timelines for in-depth summative program evaluation, using both student achievement data and teacher implementation data: *

Program

In-DepthProgram Evaluation Rotation

Professional Development Program (District Career Development Plan)

Annually, beginning in 2005 (TQ10, TQ 11)*

At-risk Program

Every five years, beginning in 2008 (AR4)*

Special Education Programs and Services

Every three years, beginning in 2005 (ESPE1, ESPE2)*

Van Meter will collect formative evaluation data for each program on an annual basis.  However, the district will collect data regarding some programs, such as the professional development program (district career development plan), more frequently.  Progress toward meeting program/service expectations will be reported to the District Leadership Team, the Board of Education, and the SIAC.
